Essex Family Garden
This garden originally had a view from the house that was dominated by the facing brick wall with some trees and shrubs surrounding a rectangular lawn. The clients, a young couple with two small children, wanted a beautiful, welcoming garden, a place where they could relax and entertain and where the children could play safely. They also wanted to have a hand in the build.
The final design is based on curves to soften the rectangular perimeter. There is a generously sized terrace and a large area where the children can play safely and still be seen. The garden is still young but now offers an attractive view from the house and invites exploration with a winding path alongside a woodland style planted area. Trees throughout the garden provide interest and height. They have a raised border to grow herbs and vegetables with the children, plenty of seating and a small water feature. The garden is designed to easily adapt to the changing needs and interests of the family.
